The Organic Links logo is for a project I am undertaking. I wanted to get the feel of organically grown produce in the colours and shapes. The teardrop shape has an organic feel about it and can be found repeatedly in nature, here I have used the shape to represent leaves. I enjoy the mix of blues and greens, they add softness to each other.

So why would you want a WordPress web site?

You may be asking “What is WordPress?”

WordPress began as a blogging program. What is a blog? It is a word which has evolved from the combination of two words, web and log. A blog is like a diary or a journal which you add information to in the way of text, images, video and so on. A blog is usually presented in chronological order so that the latest post on the blog is the most current. It can have a specific theme such as your hobby, your political views, your travel…but can also be quite general in its content.

You may be thinking, “I don’t want or need a blog”. This may be true but WordPress is not just a blogging program, it is a CMS (content management system) . With WordPress, you are able to update, add to and change the appearance of your site very easily and you don’t need to be a web developer.

Animated banners can compliment your web site and can be used as part of the header on the page or placed anyway which works well from a visual perspective. The banners shown above and below this demonstrate how effective photographs with transition effects can be; these banners were developed for a catering company web site.

Banners don’t need to be this size, small banners can be equally effective. This is shown with the three small banners below which are randomly selected when a page on a web site for ceramics is opened.

RGB colour has added to it an alpha inclusion for transparency… and so the addition of the A. RGBA allows colour and transparency to be specified with 0 being totally transparent and 1 being opaque. I felt excited about this today and look forward to using it.

Logos need to reflect the person, business or commodity which are represented.

The design works best if simple and need to be able to be viewed in large and small formats.
It is preferable to design the logo in black and white format first. This does not mean that colour is unimportant and, in fact, may be particularly important if the logo refers to an item which is well known for its shape and colour.

I recently designed some new logos for myself. There are some examples above and I decided to include the concept of a bird in my logo due to my love of the bird life where I live in Northern NSW.

I have been thinking today about logos because recently I have been looking at different combination of letters including my own. Logos can be very personal even when abstracted. I love birds and I have been trying to arrange my own letters into shapes which gain reference to birds.

If you are thinking about having a logo designed for you then get out the pencil and paper and start doodling with your own set of letters and ideas. Think first of all in black and white because colour can be introduced later. You might consider black on white and then white on black… and don’t forget the negative image component as an idea ( by that I mean the shape around the object which , in this case, is the letters in your name or business).
